Scott Sterling has been playing bass trombone for more than a quarter
century and has can't imagine life without it. Such is the curse
of a passionate professional musician!
Mr. Sterling composes and arranges. His business card has three small staves of music which provide him with something to write on whenever the muse happens to strike. He does music transcription and teaches music privately. He teaches low bass, sight reading and is a brass clinician at Longfellow Middle School in Berkeley, California. His philosophy in music education is:
"It is Rapturous for me when a student realizes their own musicality by going past just playing the notes on the page, to actively expressing the Message (which could be a Thought, Emotion, or a Scene) that is inherent in the piece."
Mr. Sterling resides in Berkekey, his home-town. He has studied music at Diablo Valley College, USC and Pacific Lutheran University (Tacoma, WA). He is now completing his bachelor program of studies at Cal State Hayward.
Mr. Sterling has studied trombone with Patricia Crosen, Don Howe, Jon Engelkes (of the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra), Terry Cravens ( at USC), and Keith Winkel (at PLU).
Mr. Sterling has been playing for 26 years, professionally for 4 years.
He currently performs regularly with the Kensington Symphony Orchestra and Horns a Plenty.
